Zichron Yaakov was founded in 1882 by Jewish immigrants from Romania on the second day of Chanukah. Originally named Zamarin—a Jewish-Samaritan name from the Second Temple and Mishnaic periods, likely meaning “winegrowers”—the town’s roots are deeply connected to agriculture, wine, and heritage.

One of the Baron’s towns, that was established on 1922 south of Zichron Yaakov, and north of Pardes Hanna. It was announced as a local council in 1950, however in 2003 Binyamina and Givat Ada were merged into a single local council, while each town keeps it’s special character within a single economical structure.

In 1912 the Zionist Histadrut purchased 11,000 dunam in one of the larges purchase operations that were financed by two main sources: Yehuda Shlezinger from Siberia and “the new London Estate” – a group of 100 Zionist Jews from England. In September 1913 additional 4000 dunams were purchased. This was fund by a loan from PIKA (Palestine Jewish Colonization Association).
