Hadera
The township of Hadera, situated between Haifa and Tel Aviv, was established in 1891 by immigrant members of Hovevei Zion (a Zionist movement helmed by Russians and Eastern Europeans). The size of Hadera is 53 000 dunams (53 km2) and the town has a population of approximately 76 300. The name Hadera is derived from the Arabic word 'Khadra' ( Hadera ) meaning 'Green' which is a reference to the marshes that the town is situated upon.
Originally Hadera was just an settlement of just 10 families this township has grown to become a sprawling village of schools, amenities and parks. In the center of town is Hadera's 'Great Synagogue' which is one of the first buildings to be constructed in the town. Hadera is great for families, especially with student aged children, as there are 42 schools (24 Elementary, 21 Secondary) spread throughout the city.
The immediacy of two major cities to Hadera is a plus for the town because it means that major shopping districts, landmarks and cultural centers are just a bit more than a stones throw away.
